REPETITION. REPETITION. REPETITION…
Improving your puck handling is all about repetition. And what’s great about the Green Biscuit is you can put in the hours ANYWHERE and ANYTIME!
The drills and tips shown here are meant to be a starter kit for you to go out and practice. We don’t want to bog you down with details about stick position and whether the Green Biscuit is on your forehand or backhand. The bottom line is to hit the pavement and stickhandle. Now get out there!
THREE-PUCK TRIANGLE
This is harder then it looks!
Place three regular pucks (or any other small objects) in the shape of a triangle. At first you will find it easier to push and catch the Green Biscuit around the pucks.
But as you develop your hands try keeping the Green Biscuit on the stick blade as much as possible, deftly switching from forehand to backhand.
TOE-DRAG 101
It’s the move everyone wants to master. If you break this move down into three easy parts it is relatively easy to begin to practice it. At first, just concentrate on these three steps. You can get fancy after a few hundred reps.
- Drag the puck with the toe of the blade.
- Stop the puck on the forehand.
- Bring it across your body on to your backhand.
Hint: If you think of the move in this basic L-shape rather than some big sweeping move you see the pros do on TV, you’ll master it much, much faster!
DRAG-BACK
Doesn’t everybody want to pull this move off? It’s relatively simple: starting with a toedrag and push of the puck on the backhand until the puck is behind you, then pulling it up through your legs.
Tip: At first it is easier at first to knock it off your shoe and up. As your hands get better and your stick extension improves, you’ll be able to pull puck right back up without needing to use your shoe/skate.
Big Time Challenge: You can do this on both sides of your body…but you’ll have to figure this out on your own!
SCATTER DRILL
Stickhandling is all about having the hands to handle a puck in any position, and this is a great drill for achieving this.
Simply throw a bunch of pucks down and then drag, pull, slide, forehand and backhand, through them. You may feel like you are going to sprain your wrist, and some of the hand and stick positions would never occur in a game, but that is the entire point of this drill.
OFF YOUR SKATES…ERRR….SHOES DRILLS
Controlling a puck with your skates is an essential and difficult skill to master, let alone finding time to practice it when you are on the ice. But dragging the Green Biscuit a few hundred times off your shoe will get you accustomed to the feel. Of course, there a quite few different routines you could use.
